Best Virtual Try-On Apps for Shopify in 2026: An Honest Comparison

By Divine Eyo · · 7 min read

Three virtual fitting-room previews arranged for comparison.

The best virtual try-on apps for Shopify apparel stores in 2026, judged on merchant reviews, Built for Shopify status and real pricing, are GenLook and Antla both 5.0-rated, both badged, both around $20/month with a long tail of newer apps competing on price and features. This comparison covers every apparel-focused try-on app live on the Shopify App Store as of 15 September 2026, with the data taken directly from each listing.

Disclosure first. Spequlo, the author of this page, makes one of the apps below. We ranked by evidence review count, rating, badge status and time in market and on that evidence we are not at the top. We've placed ourselves where the data puts us and said why. If that's not what you expected from a vendor's "best of" list, good.

How we ranked

Only apps live on the Shopify App Store on 15 September 2026, focused on apparel rather than eyewear, makeup or jewelry. Every number comes from the app's own listing on that date. Ordering is by review count and rating, with Built for Shopify status as a tiebreaker because Shopify's own documentation says badged apps rank higher in App Store search and the merchant-facing filter can hide unbadged apps entirely. Only 1,443 of 17,891 apps hold the badge.

We did not weight features, because we sell features and you should be suspicious of a vendor who scores its own.

The comparison table

*Camweara's reviews are predominantly from eyewear and jewelry merchants; it supports apparel but that isn't its core.

Which apps are worth shortlisting?

Antla — the strongest evidence in the category. 57 reviews at 5.0 over two years, Built for Shopify, and the cheapest overage rate on the list at high volume ($0.09 on its top tier). Tel Aviv-based. Pairs with existing size charts but does not generate size guidance itself. If you want the safe choice, this is it.

GenLook — the fastest-growing. 38 reviews at 5.0 in under a year, Built for Shopify, and the only badged app with a free tier. Lyon-based, with the most complete public documentation of any vendor here, including a privacy policy that commits in writing to 7-day maximum photo retention. Merchants specifically praise texture rendering.

Camweara — the incumbent, live since 2021 with the most reviews. But read them: most are eyewear and jewelry stores, pricing is per product rather than per try-on ($39/month for 70 products), and it has no badge. Strong if you sell accessories alongside apparel; less compelling for apparel alone.

Spequlo — free, and the only app on the list that ships both try-on and size guidance from the brand's own chart, and the only one whose listing names app-embed install. It is also five months old with zero reviews, which is why it sits ninth, not first. See the section below.

AI Stylist — worth a mention as the one other app listing size recommendation, at $3.95/month. But its single review is from 2023, so treat it as unproven.

The 2025–26 cohort (Lit Outfit, Looksy, EganAI, Lookify, FitCheck, LiSA, Try It On, TryMee) all launched within the last year, all have zero to one reviews, and most are pass-throughs on the same diffusion inference with pricing that clusters at $0.08–0.17 per try-on. None has evidence yet. If one of them has a feature you specifically need, take the free tier for a test drive; otherwise wait for reviews.

What do merchants actually praise?

We read the most recent reviews on every listing with more than a handful. The consistent theme is not image quality — it's support. Antla's August 2026 reviews cite "fast support"; GenLook's July reviews name "responsive support" alongside setup ease; Camweara's reviewers repeatedly mention custom coding help; TryMee's single reviewer says the team supports "A to Z."

Render quality gets mentioned, but less often, and usually as "works well" rather than in detail. The practical read: in this category, the merchant experience at install time is what generates the review, and the vendors at the top of the table are the ones who answer messages fast. That is worth knowing both as a buyer ask how support works before you sign, and as a signal of how young the category still is.

What does virtual try-on really cost on Shopify?

Headline monthly prices mislead, because nearly every app meters per try-on. The number that matters is the overage rate once you exhaust the included allocation, and it clusters tightly:

  • $0.08–0.12 — Antla's higher tiers, GenLook Pro, Looksy, EganAI
  • $0.12–0.17 — Antla and GenLook entry tiers
  • $0.18–0.25 — Lookify, the outlier

At those rates, a store generating 1,000 try-ons a month spends roughly $100–170 on the cheapest plans that include that volume, and $19.99 base plus $90–170 in overage if it stays on an entry plan. Two exceptions to the metering model: Camweara prices by product count, and Spequlo's Shopify plan starts with a pilot that is strictly pay-as-you-go before tier pricing is set.

A quick sanity check before you sign: try-on open rate on product pages is a small fraction of sessions. Estimate your monthly product-page sessions, assume a single-digit percentage open the tool, and price from that not from total traffic.

Which apps did we leave out, and why?

  • mirrAR, Snaplook Virtual Try On, Virtual Try On Clothes, MirrorLook — listings returned "not currently available on the Shopify App Store" on 15 September 2026.
  • Banuba — makeup, eyewear and hair colour only; no apparel.
  • AI Virtual Try-On by EdgeCloud — 2.1 rating from 4 reviews; the most recent, January 2026, reads "useless blank app."
  • Puctto Fashion & Accessories Try-On — 1.0 rating; its one review reports code left in the theme after uninstall.
  • Perfect Corp / WANNA — the enterprise incumbent, but its Shopify listing shows one active install at $379/month and no badge; it sells direct, not through the App Store.

Excluding an app for being unavailable or badly reviewed is not a judgment on the company listings come and go. Check the live store before you rule anything out.

Where Spequlo fits

We're ninth in the table because we've been live since May 2026 and no merchant has reviewed us yet. That's the honest position. What we'd say for ourselves is narrower than a ranking: Spequlo is the only app on this list that does both try-on and size guidance from your own size chart, the only one that starts with a pay-as-you-go starter pilot, and the only one whose listing commits to app-embed install. We're built in Canada, and we measure results with a random session holdout rather than a before-and-after, which we've written up separately. If those three things matter to you, we're worth a test; if a long review history matters more, Antla and GenLook have earned theirs.

Questions, answered

What is the best free virtual try-on app for Shopify?
GenLook offers 10 free try-ons on a badged app; Lit Outfit, EganAI, FitCheck and Try It On offer 25 or fewer free; Spequlo offers a pilot on a convenient pay-as-you-go basis, so you only pay for what you use.

Does Built for Shopify matter? Yes. Shopify's documentation says badged apps appear higher in App Store search, and merchants can filter to badged apps only, which removes everything else from results. Only Antla and GenLook hold it among apparel try-on apps.

Do any of these apps recommend a size? Only Spequlo and AI Stylist list size recommendation. Antla pairs with an existing size chart but does not generate guidance. Try-on and size recommendation are different capabilities — see our explainer.

Will a try-on app slow down my product page? Any app embed adds script. Built for Shopify requires that an app not reduce the storefront Lighthouse score by more than 10 points, which is a useful ceiling to hold every vendor to, badged or not.

Do I need new product photos? Generally no. Generative try-on works from flat-lay or on-model images you already have, within the vendor's spec — typically a clean background, the garment fully visible, and at least 1024px on the long edge.

How often is this page updated? We re-check every listing quarterly and update the date at the top. If you're a vendor and your listing has changed, email us and we'll verify.
